Chelsea Flower Show TV

Chelsea Flower Show was a feast of sound and activity - water features bubbling, bands playing and crowds discussing the elaborate gardens. This video footage captures some of the atmosphere of the day, and gives perspective to the gardens which the still images can't achieve.

I was a novice with a video camera at Chelsea. The video-taking experience was enlivened by jostling crowds, ropes surrounding the gardens, and people still loitering despite press day having passed. Please excuse somewhat shaky footage and unplanned voice-overs!

Hortus Conclusus Chelsea Gold Garden...

The Hortus Conclusus garden won the 2004 Best in Show at Chelsea. The designers created secret spaces, hiding within box hedges and under a canopy of formal trees. A stylish, interesting garden which could surely be appreciated better from the inside.

This sweep of the Australian Inspiration show garden takes in the sunken garden in the distance, past the raised beds and log-filled walls, and out under the pale blue pergola. Spikey cordylines contrast with the curved wooden benches.

Darkness to Light Salvation Army Garden...

I was very happy to have my video camera at the Salvation Army show garden - the only Chelsea garden to use music. Harp and cello music drifts across the garden from the bandstand, drawing the visitor toward the light end of the garden.

Living Paintings Sensory Garden...

The Sensory Garden was designed as a living painting for the blind. Smells and touch bring the garden to life. The Chic Garden entry’s borders are a muted palette of lavender, blues and grasses.

This garden is designed to attract and support a variety of wildlife. Includes an exhaust pipe tree sculpture, bee hotels and a hobbit’s hole. London’s Burntwood School designed this garden for a national school competition.

Stone Water Sculpture...

Water glided across the top and down the sides of this black stone water feature. It is part of a collection of sculptures and garden features in stone and bronze.

This video is of the far end of the Chelsea winning garden. The striking water feature creates a calming back-drop to the ordered garden. The slate, gravel and box hedges contrast with the bamboo and wild flowers.
