My birthday week continued...
Am still celebrating my birthday week. And why not? Met my ballet friend for lunch, then went to the library and found another Anthony Horowitz book in the Hawthorne series (intricate but enjoyable). Came home feeling spring-inspired. Walked around my damp garden (it had been raining overnight) to take photographs. Blossom, blossom, and more blossom - so beautiful. Heartwarming, uplifting, inspiring, refreshing blossom.

Flowering Cherry Tree
Lovely spring, bringer of new life, a time when the circle of life turns gently. Was positively enjoying my garden, until I looked down. Aargh! Squillions of happy weeds, already in flower. I know exactly what that means. Returned to the house, dumped the camera, put on damp weather clothes and did an hour's weeding. Kind of lost the spiritual vibe - and my hands and fingers got really cold.
Friday 11th September
This afternoon I spent three hours weeding, scraping over the dirt with my hand claw tool and pulling out lots of little green things. Even though the sun was shining, my hands and fingers got really cold again.

More Blossom
Cleaned up the wee garden on the back lawn, and the path in front of the glass-house. Two of the rugosa roses I planted in here last autumn might have died - they were probably too close to the path anyway. One of the Windemere roses by the compost looks incredibly sad, too.
Saturday 12th September
A list, written before we go swimming :
- Dig out sad rugosas, pop into potting mix in pots.
- Plant Nozomi rose by driveway fence.
- Plant courgette seeds.
And please, please, please go round the garden, scoop up all the little piles of weeds and dump under hedge.

Periwinkle Flowers
Three hours gardening later...
Ignored the list. Pulled all the dead Clematis canes out of the pergola's Crepuscule rose, and pruned it (mainly removing dead wood). Also pruned the Raspberry Ice roses and the David Austins around the Herb Spiral. Trimmed the nearby Miscanthus grass. Then lit the bonfire and tried to burnt everything.
Sunday 13th September
Must do the stuff on the list. Must.
Three hours later...
Have scooped up the weed piles, scraped up even more, dumped the loads as self-instructed, and carried trimmings from another big Miscanthus grass to the bonfire. Am having lunch and a coffee inside. Promise to finish list this afternoon, and even do some extras.
Two hours later...
Yeay! Have done everything. The two rugosa roses (Scabrosas) just might be still alive - they're in pots. I've pruned more roses, and started clearing out the Apple Tree Border. The bonfire is gurgling (it likes the dried Miscanthus grass cuts). Am I just a wee bit tired? Yes, after five hours work, a lot of it plodding around, picking up and carrying reasonable loads. But I am so happy.
Now we are off to watch a dancing performance. A pretty groovy way to end the day.
