Epimediums

I rescued three big pots of Epimediums from an Easter nursery sale, and decided to try them planted underneath the Cabbage Tree, at the start of the Apple Tree Border. I wasn't sure if they'd like their chosen spot...

It's a pity that plants can't talk, and tell the gardener what they really need. There was much that I didn't know about Epimediums. I didn't realise they had such lovely foliage, though the leaf shape looked very stylish. And then, the biggest surprise - beautiful lemon flowers in early spring!

Epimedium

Now, after a spot of googling, I am much wiser. Apparently landscape gardeners desperately need plants for dry sites under trees, and Epimedium 'Sulphureum' is just that plant. So my three, living on the edge of one of my little woodland paths, are in exactly the right spot. This does not mean I could ever claim to be a 'landscape gardener', however...
