Aconites

Aconites are one of those doubtful perennials that many gardeners still grow. So am I glad I introduced them into the Apple Tree Border? Can I keep them under control? And aren't they poisonous anyway? Yes, yes, and yes...

Autumn flowers - they are poisonous.
Aconites

Aconites provide the most beautiful blue flowers which fill up the Apple Tree Border from late summer well into autumn. They are tall, stately plants, and their stems work well for me propped up by the other shrubs. They also provide foo for the bees.

Self-seeded plants have popped up in other garden areas, but I've found them easy to remove. And yes - all parts of Aconites are poisonous, so take care when handling them. Therefore Aconites are not useful as a cut flower - better to leave these blues untouched in the garden. You can read more details on the New Zealand Plant Conservation Network website.
