Red Flax by the Dog-Path

The big red flax is very happy growing by the water. It hasn't always been this size, though.

 The Dog-Path curves around this flax.

You'll easily see below in a very early photo how narrow this part of the Dog-Path Garden first was. The red water-side flax has just been planted. The year is 1998.

 The flax doesn't get moved - the path does!

Initially I laid a thick layer of newspaper and lucerne mulch on the garden to discourage the millions of gorse and broom seedlings from germinating. An old gorse hedge had stood along the water bank for 100 years. Plenty of seedlings to come for the next 100 years, I guessed - and I was right!
