Lemon Tulips | |||||||
|
A small group of pale creamy-lemon tulips have survived the general tulip bulb neglect in the Moosey Garden. They flower in the Laundry Garden with my collection of herbs and lavenders. These tulips flower in mid-spring, and their yellow tones follow the amazing colour display put on by the daffodils. At the same time the herb Golden Marjoram is starting to glow (and grow!). Tulip SurvivorsI planted the group some six or seven years ago and for some reason only known to tulips they haven't yet disappeared into the Moosey Garden underworld. My success with tulips is not something to be proud of - these lemon tulips are some of the few survivors. The wind is their worst nightmare - as soon as it blows, the delicate petals break and blow off. What a pity! One year I will replenish my tulip stocks - perhaps planting them in underground bulb baskets which are easily lifted after flowering. For now I have to be content with the fleeting blooms of a few old but beautiful tulip try-hards.
