California Poppy Flower

There are many bright orange California Poppies (Eschscholzia) flowering in the Hen House Border. They are encouraged to self-seed, and have orange daylilies and orange cosmos nearby for colour company.

In an earlier elegant phase I tried to have only pale creamy Eschscholzia in the Hen House garden - I chose a variety called 'Milkmaid'. But the normal orange colours looked so much better with the big clumps of blue-green leaved euphorbia that I changed my mind.

I encourage California Poppies where-ever they pop up in the garden. They close their flower petals at dusk, and sometimes on cloudy days.
