Red Canna

This beautiful red Canna lily was one that I ordered through the mail from a specialist grower. It has a slightly stripey look to its leaves, with the colours of a forest green and maroon.

When Middle Garden was new and treeless I could see the red flowers from the upstairs windows of the house. They seemed to arrive late in the summer and were still blooming well in mid April.

Bright red looks great in a big garden.

After two or three years the surrounding plants grew too bushy for this Canna to stay in Middle Garden. I now have it confined to a pot on the decking until I find a new permanent spot.

I have other less subtle striped leafed Canna lilies - the popular varieties called Tropicanna and Bengal Tiger - and the lovely dark leafed normal type with orange flowers.
