Autumn colours?

I am reliably informed (ha ha, thanks to AI) that autumn is a photogenic time of the year, so I have just wandered around the garden with my camera. Keeping a faithful pictorial record of the changing seasons is part of the gardening fun, after all.

I intended to capture lots of fiery autumn colours - the very essence of autumn, before the leaves fall. Hmm... The light quality certainly felt autumnal. Surely the Dogwoods and the Maples would be wearing their flaming finery. No, this was noy the case. I found one usually brilliant red Maple with ominously bare branches - suspect death. Found lots of dull browns (oak leaves mainly) and a few dull yellows (Elms and Gleditsias) on the ground. But nothing spectacular this autumn on the trees - yet. Maybe the nights just aren't cold enough. Yet...

Sidetracked by the roses...

Then I became completely sidetracked colourwise by the sight of so many roses reblooming. And the beauty of the evergreens. And those silly, bright magenta and pink dahlias (Poodleskirt). Even that naughty white potato vine (Solanum laxum) looked amazing as it tried to scale the gum tree by the dog kennels. I love its pretty white flowers and clean green leaves.

Maybe I'm just not mentally prepared for autumn colours yet. Maybe 2026 won't be the most brilliant of years. But there's still plenty of time...
