Mecklenburgh Square

Mecklenburgh Square is a two-acre garden, registered Grade II by English Heritage. The square has mature planes, ornamental trees, formal lawns and gravel paths. Two sides of the square's borders are devoted to plants from New Zealand.

A barbecue area, tennis courts and children's play area are used by the London University postgraduate students and their families living around the square.

New Zealand Natives Border

The New Zealand native plants border was a surprise treat in the heart of London. Some of the plants are quite rare. Plants included Toe Toe, Coprosma, Hebe, Pittosporum and flaxes.

It was sad to learn that the gardener who created the New Zealand garden border, himself a New Zealand native, passed away last year. I hope they can find someone who knows how to care for the garden, to ensure it survives. It was sad to see some plants had declined already, mainly through not being watered enough in the height of summer.
