Rose Picture Gallery

The garden here has over 300 roses planted in all the borders. There are many David Austins, whose flower forms and fragrances I really love. One border is full of Rugosas, and there are climbers covering all the fences, the two pergolas, and several archways. It's impossible to have a single favourite rose.

Climbing RosesClimbing Roses...
Colourful climbing roses cover the pergola at the back of the house. The rich red beauty is Santana.
Crepuscule Summer RosesCrepuscule Summer Roses...
Crepuscule is a soft apricot thornless climbing rose which adorns one of my big wooden pergolas in summer.
Climbing Rose WesterlandClimbing Rose Westerland...
Wsterland is a strong tall upright rose, with flowers in apricot shades. The petals are translucent, and they have a soft subtle fragrance. I grow it in the house patio garden.
Kronenberg RoseKronenberg Rose...
Kronenberg roses really are this bright when in flower! Another name for this hybrid tea rose is Flaming Peace.
Rhapsody in Blue RoseRhapsody in Blue Rose...
I love George Gershwin's jazzy music - and I love this rose, named after his most famous piece of music. In the Moosey Garden I grow Rhapsody in Blue standards as well as shrub roses.
Aotearoa RoseAotearoa Rose...
Aotearoa is the Maori name for the country of New Zealand, where this beautiful porcelain pink hybrid tea rose was bred.
Benson and Hedges RoseBenson and Hedges Rose...
The beautiful Benson and Hedges rose has a rather non-PC name! It's another bred by famous rose breeder Sam McGredy.
Sam McGredy RoseSam McGredy Rose...
Many of Sam McGredy's roses, like this stunning hybrid tea, are brightly coloured.
Solitaire RoseSolitaire Rose...
Solitaire is a beautifully rich golden rose, bred by Sam McGredy.
Claude Monet RoseClaude Monet Rose...
Claude Monet is a subtle striped shrub rose, and oh so photogenic!
Golden CelebrationGolden Celebration...
Golden Celebration is one of my favourite David Austin roses. The soft buttery yellow petals have a cupped form, and the bush itself grows quite tall in my garden. Often the flower-laden canes flop over and the flowers spoil (a result of my no-staking policy).
Honey Yellow RoseHoney Yellow Rose...
This rose has flowers in the most beautiful colours, which make me think of warm honey and sunshine. I think it is a David Austin English rose.
Masquerade Climbing RoseMasquerade Climbing Rose...
Although the climber Masquerade is susceptible to rose diseases, its bi-coloured clusters of blooms are worth it. It's not uncommon to have the yellow and deep pink flowers side by side on one stem.
Ouch!Ouch!...
All rose lovers know what these are. They catch our hands, our clothes, and even our hair.

This tough country rose grows along the back fence.
