Hello autumn...
Hello Autumn. I love you (when you bring reasonably good weather). I love your leaves, whether up in the trees or down on the ground. I love the Prunuses and the Dogwoods. I love your shapes of colour in the gardenscape.
And hello, Monday. So far you've been - interesting. I've done my piano practice (nice), been to the dentist (I like my dentist), then to the library (groovy). And now I'm off again to drive one of my smallish friends to her swimming squad. Will read one of my new books and maybe write a list for tomorrow while I wait.
No list, just an exhortation. Would the gardener please plant all the remaining shrubs, and the daffodil bulbs, and spread all the horse manure on the garden. Today. Please.
Four gardening hours later...
I've only planted the Bumble Bee rhododendrons. Change of plan - they went in the Stumpy Garden near where the Phormium was. I've already raved on about the Phormium, right? And have only spread four bags of horse manure around - it's well-rotted, and very wormy. Divided up a huge clump of miniature Agapanthus, planted them around the new edge of the garden, fetched some stones to complete the look. Will add more (Agapanthus and stones).

Tree Stump Exposed...
Last things - did a quick sit-down weed along the edge of the Birthday Rose Garden, pulling out mainly clover. Then I collected a barrow load of firewood, and here I am. Have washed my hands and knees, and the log-burner is going, ready for the great outdoors cool-down (which starts about 4pm). I'm happy with my day.

Crabapples
Wednesday 7th May
After swimming I weeded the edge of the Island Bed and planted therein the deep red Phormium and one bag of daffodils. Weeded another small bed which edges the Driveway Lawn, and then moved over to the wee path which connects Willow Bridge. Sat down and weeded it, dug out self-sown Lupins and planted them in the proper garden, fixed the stone edges. Came inside and did my piano practice (loving that iPad), then zoomed out to take my Jazz Choir. Life is never dull when it's full of variety.
And that's all the gardening I did for the week. Oops. Other fun stuff popped up - music writing, music rehearsals, small friends' birthdays, lunches with friends. And time well spent organizing my musical life on my new iPad (which is brilliant). I'm OK with that.

Love Those Leaves
Because the next big activity for me in the garden is to rake and bag all the fallen autumn leaves, and the longer I can put that off the better!
