Memo to self...

At last I've remembered to dig up and replant some Hostas, before they get completely swamped by ferns. Finally, a 'Memo to self' has been noted and acted on. Have also remembered to plant the rest of the Purple Passion potatoes. Another Memo to self : potatoes do not crop well if left languishing in their plastic bag. Oops.

Today I should weed all day. There obviously is much more to garden life than weeding, but the situation is semi-serious. Lots of annual grasses are about to seed, all blown in from next-door's rough paddocks. Humph.

Pebbles the Dog

Two hours later...

Have made good progress. Blast those grasses, but they are relatively easy to pull out, one by one. I'm working my way down the Allotment Garden - only one compartment left now. Silly grasses.

Nicely, Pebbles (my 'only dog') has been keeping me company, and is now barking madly. So something alarming is going on, but I can't see or hear anything.

Another two hours...

Might stop now - my hands and fingers are achy, and I have to go to a piano playing rehearsal. Have made good progress again. And have been rationalising. There are much worse things in my garden to deal with than annual grasses. Like creepy convolvulus, and California thistles, and annual stinging nettles by the water race which arrived with some horse manure.

Memo to self : remove the nettles, wearing gloves, before they set seed. Please.

Pink Lupins

Friday 6th November

Yeay! A whole day with no driving - except just down the road to hopefully pick up some tomato plants. A whole day full of gardening - except for some photography, maybe some journal writing (which is happening right now, hee hee). And the garden hands-on theme of the day? Weeding. In the shade.

Four hours later...

Two sessions done. I've been going round the Driveway Lawn doing edges and clearing the messy grass underneath the trees. Not exactly finished, however. Again Pebbles has been with me. She never did this when her sister dog Winnie was alive. Hmm...

Then I followed the shade into the Hump Garden and enlarged my potato patch. Aha! I took notice of my memo, planted all the remaining potatoes (a variety called Agria) and pulled out yet more annual grasses. Drove to the vege stall and bought tomato plants (for lovely daughter), plus eggs, some more pots of spotty Ligularia, and some curly leaf parsley.

So that's it for me for today. It's become very windy and hot, so I'm going apres-gardening (in a clean white linen shirt and my new long-shorts). Am going to sort through my rose photographs (must have nearly one hundred) and listen to a talking book.
