D is for...

Hanging Rambler
D is for December. D is for the Driveway gardens. And for Doing Things in my garden. This week I'm tidying around the edges of Driveway Garden borders. It's a beautiful area to walk around, to sit and read under the shady trees, or lie in the grass. As long as the edges have been trimmed!
Monday 1st December
So today so far I have worked for nearly three hours, and so far have produced two barrowfuls of mess. Old forget-me-nots, long grass from poorly mown lawn edges (hint), and so on.
Ouch!
Have to be careful working underneath the Locust tree - nasty sharp spikes cover its branches, pieces of which have fallen off and are lying like nasty traps in the garden below, to be grabbed (ouch) or even sat on (OUCH!). And also I need to keep a careful eye on the beautiful hanging rambling rose Kiftsgate (which has the sweetest perfume). Ouch again!
Beautiful Faure
Am inside for a wee rest, which I deserve since I have already been out this morning singing in Faure's Requiem. Rather beautiful, though he didn't write many notes for the altos - their sound wasn't quite angelic enough? I like his piano chamber music very much.
Now I must get back outside and make more of a difference. Wouldn't it be amazing if I could finish it all?

Driveway Lawn and Border
Yeay! Two hours later, not finished, but I've removed three more loads of old forget-me-nots from the Driveway Border. Uncovered the little Choisya shrubs I'd planted in here some months ago - poor things! The ground is very dry - the old forget-me-not vegetation seems to stop the irrigation or rain water from getting though.
Three days later...
Almost finished? Ha ha. The perennial gardening joke. But I have done some deep diving into the roughest border to pull out old forget-me-nots and annual grass seedlings, and dig out baby Sycamore trees.

Rough Border
Everything sort of looks better - that wonderful illusion of a tidy and orderly garden edge, never mind what's growing in the middle!
