Cafe Garden Furniture

For a while the Stumpy Garden had the most elegant (and expensive) piece of garden furniture to be found in the Moosey Garden - an antique white cafe-style wrought iron table and two seats.

Antique White...

However, anything purchased from a house-and-garden nursery which has the words 'antique white' on the label is obviously a cunningly styled look-alike! I liked the white lacy patterns, and the idea of having a table to lean on (and fall asleep on, as I've done after a few lunches).

And in such a lovely spot...

The table and chairs were set out in the open, with grand views of the gardens, Willow Bridge, all the gardens along the water race, and the big Frisbee Lawn over the water. Wow. Views, views, views... It was going to be a really sunny lunch-spot in mid-summer.

 Waiting on Willow Bridge.

One small problem...

One small problem I had was persuading Non-Gardening Partner that he couldn't just mow around the table and chairs, leaving them on an island of long waving grass. He had to move them out of position, and then return them after he'd mowed. Fair enough?

But then...

Oops. One day in 2013 I realised that I hadn't actually sat down on the seats for over two years. So I tried them out, they wobbled, and my jeans bottom got covered in dusty white paint. This was a clear message, so I shifted everything onto the decking by the house. NGP is pleased - one less annoying piece of garden furniture to move out of the way when he's mowing. And I've had morning tea there more than once since - using an outdoor cushion. Phew!
