Not fair!
Aargh! It is simply not fair. I do my best. I tidy a border up and it looks magnificent. I get a bit lazy (gardenwise) and have just a few days off. While I'm off duty chaos and mess arrive and fill up the borders.
Since I keep a journal, I can check to see when I last cleared a garden area, trimmed the edges, and so on. Sometimes it's only a matter of weeks ago - and I often have photographic proof. But garden-growing time doesn't correlate with my daily/weekly sense of time at all.

Late Lilac Rhododendron
Aargh!
Today I wandered over to the Stumpy Garden to take photographs of the late flowering lilac rhododendron by the water. The extremely silly and very late flowering rhododendron, variety unknown. Aargh! Things were not good.
What a mess!
What a mess! I checked my diary. As an example, I last chopped the suckers off the oak tree stumps about eight weeks ago. Vigorous replacements had grown over a metre in length and were flopping all over the messy lawn. Too ridiculous.
So I worked really hard, non-stop, for four hours weeding and trimming. I removed five barrow loads of stuff. Have I finished? Of course not. But I've had the cricket to listen to. The rain held off, and eventually the sun came out. And we won the cricket, so that was good.

A Not So Green Summer Lawn
But I love my garden. It's very green at the moment (well, maybe not all the lawns are), and the trees are beautiful. I love being its Head Gardener. I love being in it, looking up and around, seeing new things all the time. Pity that often the new things are a bit weedy!
