Leading up to Xmas...
Have enjoyed some great gardening days in the days leading up to Christmas, doing what I need to do. But also doing a lot of smiling and relaxing. No need to rush.

Belle Poitevin Rose
Monday 22nd December
This morning I removed four barrow loads of Campion and Alkanet from the garden underneath the glass-house - preparing the ground for my new rugosas.
Christmas Brahms
Then during a short break for lunch I played some Brahms piano. Am rather out of touch with Big B. I love his shorter piano works - they are beautiful, with little padding. He says what he wants to say, then he stops. I admire that.
In the afternoon I planted my six new rugosa roses. I am so happy. My fingers are achy (thanks to Brahms's octaves as well as the garden), and New Zealand just won the cricket test. It's nearly Christmas.
Tuesday morning...
Speckles the stray came again in the middle of the night. He spooks me - after he's eaten he's taken to sitting on the window sill and staring intently at me (am in bed, hoping to go back to sleep). Why?
Speckles :- Have been feeding Speckles for over four years now.
I understand I am much smaller and less scary when most of me is hidden. Maybe that's what is puzzling him. Or could it finally be love? Nope. Probably a tummy that isn't quite full enough.
Today I am out for seven hours spending some fun time with my not-so-small friends. Will put the hoses on when I get back home. It's going to be a hot, windy day.

Cannas by the Pond
Wednesday 24th December - Christmas Eve
Sorting out the final touches for Christmas Day : bought some tinsel for a dollar to complete my Christmas tree display (it's very, very tiny - fits on a wooden chopping board).
Picked up eight bags of compost from down the road. Christmas compost! Yeay!
Christmas trains!
Met a trader in a supermarket carpark and bought a huge box of wooden Friends of Thomas the Tank Engine trains off him. They are for my smallest friend. Started the Christmas jigsaw (an Australian rainforest stream with ferns). My fridge is full of good food. My garden is super-scruffy, a work in progress, as always.

Hydrangeas
Yeay! It's Christmas Eve. Happy holidays!
