Checking the poultry...

Today's first task is to weed and clean up Henworld, and check on the poultry. A weedy grass which came into my garden with some Agapanthus I planted there needs to be pulled out. ASAP. BISS. Before it sets seeds.

Friday 6th February

The weedy grass (almost as bad as oxalis) arrived in one of my (many) moments of gardener greed. 'Free plants? Yes please, I'll have as many as you want removed. How about these? And these too? And ooh, look! Shall I take all the Agapanthus as well?'

So what am I waiting for? All I have to do is put on my gardening shorts, shirt, and boots. How hard is this to do? How long can dressing for the garden possibly take? Hmm...

Two hours later...

Hello. I'm back for morning coffee, and some snappy ramblings in my journal. Haven't quite made it to Henworld yet - stopped off with my tools by the dog kennels.

 Clear now.
The Entrance to Pebbles Kennel

Realised that a feature in my garden does not have to be a solid artistic object, an amazing design, or something involving water. The dog kennels are a garden feature!

 All tidied up.
The Back of the Dog Kennels

So I tidied up around them, dug out a huge Anemanthele grass from the door of Pebbles' kennel, and placed a huge pot of flowers in front of Winnie's. Weeded, and trimmed all the Lavenders. Picked up all the gum tree bark I could see.

Mid-afternoon...

Have worked hard for three more hours. Dismantled a couple of Phormiums by Duck Lawn (as one does) and heaved all the wet leaves under the hedge. Then I moved over to Henworld where I took stock of the resident poultry (all ornamental). The roosters are not in very good shape - one has lost both his wings, another is far too rusty to get up to anything.

 Pity about the roosters!
Happy Hens

But all the hens are fat and contented with their mini-hen chicks. Cleared up gum bark and tried to dig out the weedy grass. Humph.

Two more hours later...

That grass was nasty! And sneaky, seedlings popping up all over the path. So I went back with my (naughty) weed spray bottle. Then I raked up four more barrowloads of mess and threw them onto the bonfire. What a big day! Feeling very proud. Found two bread knives and one hand scraper in the piles of mess underneath the hedge. Hee hee. Oops.
