Still fixing the Dog-Fence..

 An early Camellia.
Two Weeping Maidens

Am still fixing the dog-fence. But a small comment for the winter sun. Sun! You are just lazing around in the sky making silly long shadows, not doing anything useful. Get with the programme! Lift yourself up a bit and try and be warmer.

Hello July...

Hello, July. Please can you be a 'kind to gardeners' month. Apparently we have an El Nino situation, and can expect below-average rainfall and colder, more frequent southerly winds (the cold ones).

Hmm. I guess we will get what we get. But a little weather kindness would be lovely.

So far this July all I've done outside is to sweep the patio. But it's only the second day, no cause for alarm. The hours in which I can garden comfortably are few, and I have soooooo much I want to do.

Right. I am going to write a scary list. I may regret this. I may even ignore it. But needs must.

Garden maintenance for July

Guess what? I don't like the look of this list at all.

 Quite secure!
One of My New Posts

Two gardening hours later...

The list didn't do it for me. I cleared and dug down the route of the dog-fence, and hammered in some of the netting. I need two more posts. But the day got a bit cold and I lost my confidence.

Myself and me...

'Don't be so hard on yourself.' myself said to me. 'Get changed and put on your new woollen winter socks and your new winter boots. Pour yourself a drink of kombucha, relight the fire, and give thanks for winter warmth.'

'And cheer up! Only two more post holes to dig - that's nothing in the grand scheme of gardening things. How about uploading some cheery photographs of the early Camellias?'

Myself goes on a bit, I reckon...

Friday 3rd July

I've had a superb day. Firstly, music with my chamber quartet, the thick syrup of Dvorak and the light and tasty treats of C.P.E. Bach. Then I spent nearly three hours in the garden, during which time I put in the last two fence posts and attached the new roll of netting. Spent the last half hour fixing the fence in two other places.

An amazing variety which seems to flower for months.
Takanini Camellia

I have asked Non-Gardening Partner to check that it is dog-proof, with respect to a dog (Pebbles) trying to barge through at nose level. Don't think I can do much more.
