Souvenir de Madame Leonie Viennot Rose

 A beautiful country rose.
Souvenir de Madame Leonie Viennot

Here's an old-fashioned rose that all country gardens should welcome with open arms. Souvenir de Madame Leonie Viennot loves to drape and sprawl along fence lines. Her flowers are an adorable blend of pinks and peaches that only roses can get away with.

A robust rose...

Best of all she's robust and healthy - no rusty black-spot sulks for this charmer. And no mildew either. She's not pretentious, and doesn't demand a shabby-chic white obelisk or some natty coils of antique rope. I grow my two Madame Leonies along an old wire sheep fence, which they duck in and out of with ease. To be honest, it isn't quite big enough for them, and she tends to meander up and over nearby shrubs. The flowers look gorgeous propped up by gentle green Pittosporum foliage.

Over-Weight?

Oops. Everything about this rose has a touch of the over-weight. Her flower-heads, cane lengths, buds, are all a wee bit larger than life.

She's not at all a messy rose, and can be pruned without fear. But I wouldn't ever try and cramp her flamboyant style.

Old-Fashioned?

I'm classifying this rose as old-fashioned simply because of her adorable name. Hmm... Perhaps I should check. I'm sure she is.

 So pretty!
