Winter contrast...

Oh my goodness. Have been looking through my older photographs. The spring colours are amazing. One forgets, surrounded by winter. But winter provides the best contrast, yes? And I can wait for spring. I'm patient.

 Such wonderful colours.
Spring 2024

We spent two hours in the winter garden today, Non-Gardening Partner and me both, with contrasting results. NGP chain-sawed his way safely and efficiently through the huge fallen wattle tree trunk. Whizz, drop! Whizz, drop! And in minutes one third (the easy bit) of the tree was processed. Each drop squashed more Renga Renga - not a problem. The Rock Lilies will 'bounce' back.

And smashed up Rock Lilies (Renga Renga)
Firewood Logs

Me not so efficient. I started removing the smaller wattle branches, and they were in a tangle. I pulled then out one by one, to form a messy heap on the Pond Paddock lawn. I cut kindling sized pieces with the loppers. All dead wood, so the wheelbarrow was loaded with logs headed straight for the wood-burner.

 Still standing.
Lucky Camellia!

Yeay for the rain!

Then the rain came, and I was quite relieved - starting a clean-up of this magnitude is quite daunting. Lopping dead wood is hard on the hands (and the loppers, oops). Scuttled inside to warm up.

But it's wonderful to have one's own winter firewood already provided, on site. All it takes is time (which I have) and energy (which theoretically I have). Gloves would help. I should try to enjoy the collecting as much as I enjoy the burning, I guess.

Sunday 20th July

I am busy with music, out all day. singing, and playing the piano So NGP is home alone, but has promised to do some more work on the fallen wattle. Yeay! That's our firewood for the rest of the winter taken care of.
