Theme for July...

Funny how I have gardening themes. Last month it was mass planting Agapanthus. This month it's trimming Ferns, Carexes, and Phormiums which grow along the water race. At the time of year when the water is at its coldest...

In the Water Race

Today I worked on the banks of the water race for over two hours. Then went in the water and chopped out more ferns and Phormium tenaxes from the banks. Trimmed more Carexes. The water is just as cold as ever. Hope I win the online auction for the fishing waders.

Monday 14th July

Exciting cat news overnight - Foxie (the ginger stray cat I was feeding) appeared on the verandah and ate all of Speckles's food. Haven't seen Foxie for some weeks now, thought I'd 'lost' him. Minimus my cottage cat (who tolerates Speckles) does NOT like Foxie, though, and howls as if she is in pain.

Unfortunately Speckles has become a bit random. But he knows where I am.

New Waders...

And more exciting news today - I picked up my twenty dollar fishing waders. Came home, immediately tried them out. They went on easily, without excessive wiggling. And they didn't leak. Yippee! So I stood comfortably in the water and trimmed Carexes, Phormiums, and Ferns for two hours. Two hours! Wow. Neither of my legs or feet got cold. Only had to stop because it was starting to get dark.

Path to Water

Tuesday 15th July

Have spent two thoughtful hours clearing the wee path from Duck Lawn to the water race. The garden is a wonderful place in which to do serious thinking. After warming up with a hot chocolate inside I'm going to take some photos, put on my waders, and do some more clearing. Carexes are smothering the Dalmera, not sure if I can slice them out successfully.

Only one hour later...

The air just got too cold - it was moist and foggy, with a very nippy breeze. I did a bit more water's edge clearing - yeay for my waders! Winnie the dog kept me company, as usual. She doesn't notice the cold. Nice for us both to be back inside, clean clothes (that's me), warm log-burner, evening meal already organised.
