Lots of loveliness...

 And the leaves just unfurling.
Gunnera Seed Head

I love my early morning walks with the camera - I see lots of loveliness, green growth of Gunnera and other perennials, and new shrubs flowering, adding new colours to the garden.

But lots of things need attention, too. Just as well - I can't imagine walking around the garden and seeing nothing that needs doing. Eek!

Morning coffee

So I should get out there straight away! But first I've been invited over for morning coffee by my smallest friend (I have the coffee, he has a smoothie). So the garden has to take second place to his wooden train set, with vintage trains Henry, Percy, and Edward. Henry is my favourite. I loooooove Henry. He is long, strong, and green.

Later...

Came home rejuvenated, did three solid hours work. But the results didn't look like three hours work, I can tell you. I must have been daydreaming and working really slowly.

Have made a start levelling the bricks in the koru courtyard. But only two are fixed up, and I tipped a bucket and a half of soil in the hole under them. Oops. Finished (finally) trimming the Miscanthus, barrowed the mess to the bonfire. Then zoomed off to Chamber Music.

Wednesday 7th October

My plan was to clear up the end of the Stumpy Garden and trim the other Miscanthus before my music rehearsal. Except that I trotted around with the dogs to take more spring photographs. Naturally I then had to look at them all. Wonderful pictures, I reckon...

Not a moment to lose. Took my edging shears over to the place of work, sat down for fifteen minutes, then whoosh! Out I had to go. I promised my garden I'd be back as soon as possible.

Gnomes from the Shrubbery :
Here is the original story of the gnomes, back in the day when their tree stump in the Shrubbery was stable.

Have a dilemma. The two gnomes on the rotting stump in the Shrubbery are being awkward. I'd found the perfect new tree stump, right next to the koru brick courtyard. I told them it was a very spiritual place. They sniffed. And you'd get far more human company living here, I added. What's that? they asked. Honestly! How ungrateful!

Two gardening hours later...

Have trimmed the Miscanthus and cleared more edges. Am really pleased with my efforts. And the gnomes and I have come to a compromise. They are prepared to try out the new stump for three weeks.

The Gnomes Have Moved

If it's either too noisy/quiet, or too busy/boring (gnomes are naturally cautious), I've promised we'll look for another one. Let's see.
