Exactly the same...

Sometimes one spends all day doing exactly the same things as yesterday, and the day before that. Who says that gardening is repetitive? I do! But now the waterside area right by Willow Bridge is cleared. And the old willow stump is gone!

 Brr....
Winter Garden Bench

Today I made great progress trimming the Gunnera, then Non-Gardening Partner came outside to chainsaw down the rotting willow tree stump. I finished the afternoon feeding the bonfire. Had to to collect one dry load for every made-today mess load - a good way to get the fence-line dumping place cleaned up at the same time as the water race.

 Long may they not leak!
My Waders

Great news...

Great news - my waders are still not leaking, even if the cold temperature of the water chills my legs and feet. Nothing important (i.e. ME) is getting wet!

Sunday 14th June

Have been busy cleaning up the willow stump mess - alas, the rotten wood can't be used for the log-burner. Darling old willow stump - an heirloom survivor of the very first tree felling here (over twenty five years ago). Since then it has stood quietly, sprouted madly, and been trimmed vigorously every now and then. A moment of reflection and quiet sadness for the passing of this iconic stump. The photo below was taken in the year 2004. Interesting - there was no Gunnera back then!

The Willow Stump

Mess-wise there's the usual mix of dry and wet stuff, never sure how much to stash and how much to burn. Working in the water race is quite physically challenging, for me, anyway. Have grass cuts all over my fingers, and my back is a bit achy. Oh well. Here's my chance to show just how resilient I can be.

Another Phormijm Removed

Early stages...

Am keeping an eye on the score of Brazil versus Morocco (early stages Fifa World Cup), and drinking my morning coffee really slowly. Putting off my return to the hard work outside? Absolutely yes!

Enticing thought : I could vary my routine by slicing down yet another oversized Phormium. My garden is over-full with Phormiums, and some of them get really large.

Much, much later...

That's what I did. Jolly hard work, had to use the axe. Wasn't all that exciting, but had to be done. Then the wind started to roar, luckily I hadn't started the bonfire. Silly wind, but it's making the day temperatures quite mild. That won't last!
