New Shrubs...

My friend has given me some shrubs in large plastic pots (five Michelias, and two Azaleas). Michelia gracipes : an evergreen large shrub, easily grown, good for hedges. Hmm...

Would I like a hedge? Not sure. Don't have any Michelias in my garden.

 Such a wonderful colour combination.
Beautiful Dahlias

Thursday 8th January

The Michelias are in a rather sad state, and not very leafy. They flower (white) in spring. I'm planting them in the end of the Hump Garden, after I've cleared out some excess grasses. Non-Gardening Partner is going to extend the irrigation in here.

Grunty work!

So do I feel like digging out some huge self-seeded Carexes and Anemanthele grasses this morning? Aargh. It will be very grunty work. I can do grunty.

Three hours later...

Aargh! Really, really hard physical work - digging with difficulty, swinging the axe, trimming, making very slow progress. But I've carted off five heavy barrow loads of mess, and have cleared enough space for three of the shrub-trees.

Yeay for Non-Gardening Partner, who only came over to measure up for the irrigation, and ended up helping with the shovel.

And yeay for my tame brown blackbird, who hopped around keeping me company. The garden where I've been working is full of flowers as well as grasses : daylilies, species Buddleia, dahlias, and a few tough roses.

 NGP with the shovel.
Man Helping

Now I am apres-gardening in pastel old-lady blue, about to feast on chocolate ice-cream. Australia has just won the final Ashes cricket test. Yeay. Have enjoyed listening.
