More warm summer rain...

We've had another three days of wonderful warm summer rain - the perfect length of time to finish the second holiday jigsaw, reflect on the garden, and recharge. This morning the drizzle has finally stopped, leaving shiny wet vegetation and saturated soil. Yeay! I need some suitable tasks which will not get me too muddy. Dead-head some roses?

Here's a possible list, guaranteed to keep me semi-dry :

But first, as always, I must change into my gardening shorts and shirt.

A bit later...

I filled the wheelbarrow once with trimmings. But I was still wearing my GOOD jeans, my BEST APRES-GARDENING shirt and my PROPER shoes. Naughty. Got dripped on by watery plants. Scuttled back inside for a hot coffee and some self-discipline. Doing what I said I'd do would be a good start! Changed my clothes and organised Non-Gardening Partner to pick up some more bags of compost and some Beignets (posh donuts) from the local bakery for lunch. Yum...

Lunchtime...

Guess who thought that all the plants with long thin leaves in the curved house garden were self-seeded cornflowers? Well, they weren't - they were paddock weeds, introduced with the horse manure. Oops. Pulled them all out. Dumped all my mess (weeds, rose and dahlia dead-heads, flax stalks) - three barrow loads. And then it started to rain, with thunderstorms and possible hail forecast. Whatever. Got myself another reward for being good : went down the road to the veggie and flower stall and bought two pots of purply-pink anemone style dahlias called 'Poodle Skirt'. Haven't bought new dahlias in years. Nice!
