MY BIG PLANTING DAY

I forget how cold it is in my winter garden after a frost. Things can take all morning to warm up. But I want to be out there gardening.

 By the driveway.
Agapanthus

Today was supposed to be MY BIG PLANTING DAY, all day, starting early. All the Agapanthus would be in the soil by late afternoon. But the morning temperature was really, really cold. Finally made a start at 11:30, keep going for an hour and a half, popped inside briefly for a hot chocolate. By now it had warmed up to ten degrees Celsius, positively balmy! Some might respell that as 'positively barmy', hee hee.

 Planted!
Lots of Agapanthus

Went back outside, worked for another two hours. Did my best. Didn't finish, but all the big Agapanthus divisions are now planted. The smaller ones are going on the other side of the driveway. I collected three barrowloads of dry mess and it's gurgling on the bonfire. I cleared out all the Pittosporum branches and dumped them by the fence.

Flowering now - a species shrub.
Hebe in the Driveway

Shrub colour...

Noticed some beautiful shrub colour by the side of the driveway - a species Hebe and the pretty Breath of Heaven. Both are flowering just after the winter solstice - very generous.

Thanks, Fred...

While I was outside doing my gardening, one of the Fred cats left a brief and cryptic message in my gardening journal : '23.........;,m.' A cat of fewer words than usual - I usually get rows and rows of repeated '6's and '7's, which I obviously ignore.

Warm feet!

And now I'm going to collect some firewood for the log-burner and wash my hair. Will ease into sundown smelling nice and having warm feet again. Yeay!
