Going rogue...

Violet Leaves
Aha! Good morning to the Periwinkle (so generous) and those tenacious Violets, growing in the Hump Garden where I do not require either of you. Two ground covers, surplus to requirements, gone rogue...
Wednesday 19th August
Only did two hours work in the Hump Garden, but well worth it. Starting to remove the Periwinkle from around the dahlias. Annoying - someone (me) didn't keep it contained behind its edging of logs. Have cleared about maybe half of it, will construct a fatter, more visible edge. Out of sight (the log edge, that is) out of mind.
Thursday 20th August
How good? Four and a half hours work in the Hump Garden pulling out more Periwinkle and creeping violets - three barrowfuls dumped by the fence, and one load on the bonfire. Spread some bags of horse manure underneath the archway rose Autumn Sunset, hammered in some supports for the other flimsier archway so it won't blow over. Am very proud.

Trimmed Miscanthus
Friday 21st August
Still feeling proud! Amazing what a solid day spent in the garden does to my spirit and soul. A very healthy dose of self-affirmation, no less! Am off to Chamber Music, will continue my garden when I return. Yeay!
Much later...
Spent two more hours in the Hump Garden, working on the path and gardens either side. Rose care - dug out and replanted Just Joey, lopped dead canes off Corylus, dug out a standard rose. The two Claude Monets that I rehomed in here are not looking too happy either. Have never had much luck with transplanted standard roses. Not sure why.
Removed a little colony of Lamium, dug out an ancient bulky Carex. Dumped wet mess by the fence, took the burnables to the bonfire. I raked and the grass on the bonfire sizzled. Whoosh.
Saturday 22nd August
Yeay! Today I worked for three hours, clearing more of the path, fixing the log edges, weeding, and pruning roses - particularly yellow Frau Dagmar Hastrup and Clair Matin (who lost her dead canes). Uprooted another dead standard (think it was Margaret Merril).

Clearing the Hump Garden
Then Non-Gardening Partner wheeled all fifteen bags of pony manure over, and helped me tip them into the garden beside the path. He can barrow three bags at a time, while I can only manage one. No wonder it takes me so long!

Camellias
Another groovy gardening day, with sensible decisions and great results.
