Ignoring that list!

Am still ignoring that first August list I announced with a loud splattering fanfare of trumpets, back on the first of the month. I can keep it in storage for 2027?

Have been taking things a bit easier, giving my mouth time to heal from dental surgery. And the daytimes have been very cold. Yesterday I only managed an hour and a half - I cleared the patio garden, trimmed all the Erigeron, cleaned up leaves, and so on. Just one barrowful.

Today, again just one - this time sourced from the front of the Island Bed. And guess what? The Lamium is growing back really nicely. But I knew that would happen.

Did a huge trim on the large striped Phormium and the Senecio. Weeded, scraped up mess, pruned a few roses. Again the temperature was a bit low, but that was OK.

 In winter.
The Island Bed

This coldness seems to be 'colder coldness' than we usually get in winter. I know this is true because Non-Gardening Partner has ditched his weekend shorts for jeans - very unusual.

Pony poos...

Exciting news - he has brought me sixteen bags of rotted pony manure to spread around. Sixteen! So groovy. This will take me a week, I reckon.

Saturday 8th August

Am home from swimming, ready to go out in the garden. Will continue the Island Bed clean-up. Weeding and trimming ferns today, and also a bit of pruning. And, of course, spreading more manure around.

Four hours later...

A funny sort of reward - sat on the damp grass watching the bonfire, got colder and colder. Then the next reward - organised NGP to rake up a few more loads of dry leaves, scuttled inside for a hot shower, put on smoke-free warm clothes, clean socks, slippers. And the final reward - a slow-cook lamb casserole ready to eat, and freshly baked bread.

 Beautiful!
Pink Hellebore

I did some jolly good work in the Island Bed. Pruned the Hydrangeas therein - it's a reasonably sheltered area, so the frosts shouldn't bother any new growth. Had a great day.
