September spring...
September. Spring. My garden is lighter, with more and more flowers. Beautiful, lovely, nicer than nice. But will I finish everything I want to finish before my September birthday in the second week? Oh I hope so. One dares to dream...

Spring View from House
What exactly do I want to finish? Everything that needs doing. Why? It is expected of good gardeners that they keep up with nature. Birthdays are special signposts in the year, useful for celebrating (of course) and a little bit of crowing. One cannot crow successfully if the Hump Garden weeding isn't properly finished.

Out Come the Carexes
High on this week's to-do list is the removal of all the overgrown Carexes behind the woodshed. The space created is to be filled with Hostas (which are near the house and get smothered every year by ferns - they will be dug out) and maybe Heucheras (in pots behind the glass-house).
Wednesday 2nd September
The plan - a quick visit to my dental surgeon, then grab a nearby coffee with my friends, then zoom back home and finish Carex digging. Then I zoom back out again, as one does - I do the ballet run then take my jazz choir rehearsal. A very car-intensive day...

Pretty Daffodil
Mid-afternoon...
All done. Also dug out some rogue ferns. Picked some falling-over daffodils for the house, took some photographs. There are a few more Carexes underneath the variegate Elm tree. They can come out tomorrow.
On my way home from coffee I stopped at the plant nursery, bought seed raising mix and seed potatoes, and an incredibly expensive (for me) pair of German secateurs for the rest of the rose pruning. Ouch.
Friday 4th September
An itty bitty day. We took Winnie to the vet to get pain relief to make her (probable) last year with us more enjoyable. 'She's a very old lady', to quote the vet.
The wind was horrible. Tried trimming ferns, but they got blown around, couldn't fill the wheelbarrow. So I sat down and did small scale weeding along the driveway border. It was rather unpleasant, and I didn't really want to keep going. Then NGP randomly drove off in his car. Where was he going? I might have had plans for him... But I didn't, and he'd just taken the wool from shearing to a friend's woolshed to clean up the fleeces.
Coming up...
I have singing things all weekend, then next week is my birthday week. Yeay!
