Only one rose?

Pat Austin Rose
A random thought while I continue to process squillions of early November rose photographs. If I only grew one rose, for example the luscious Pat Austin, I would keep track of her flowering progress, and check her every day. Thus I would enjoy seeing her very first bud, and the very first full open flower.
Over two hundred roses...
But because I grow over two hundred roses in my garden, such little details are missed. I wander over to say hello to Pat, and find not one precious apricot bud, but lots and lots of floppy blooms - some with petals already falling off. Eek!
Pat Austin has really been loving life this year in the Hump Garden, and seems to have been partying for days. She started off so discretely that I didn't notice a thing. What a beauty!
There's just the possibility that I might - just might - have too many roses. But we won't dwell on this. I'll just try to notice more things in a more timely fashion. And if for some dreadful reason I was only allowed to grow one rose, I think I'd choose Pat Austin. Then again, maybe something pinker? Perhaps Cornelia? Oh dear.
