National Dogs Day

Yesterday, August 26th, was National Dogs Day, according to Casper, the talking collie dog that I follow on Facebook. Somewhere in the world, at least (in the UK, USA and Canada, for sure). In my New Zealand garden every day is Dogs Day.

 Pebbles and Winiie.

Every day I take my best friends for a walk. If it's dry I take my best friends outside for lunch, making sure I've got some treats in my pocket. Most days I take my best friends gardening. Winnie always comes, but sometimes Pebbles is more interested in staring through the fence at next door's goats.

The milk thief...

Pebbles has started stealing jars of cat milk from the cottage verandah. She carries them to the middle of the Frisbee Lawn and then tries to get the lid off. So nothing potentially edible or drinkable can now be left outside the cottage. Sorry Speckles. If you don't turn up for your dinner or breakfast you miss out.

It's always Cats Day...

Goes without saying that it's always Cats Day here : the daily menu includes squishy fishy food, finely chopped steak, lamb and chicken, cat biscuits for the hypo-allergic, sensitive stomach, mature, indoors, outdoors - grain free, protein enriched, help with hairballs - you name it, they get it.

Wednesday 27th August, much later...

Have planted four of the new Hebes alongside the walkway over to Pond Cottage. Took absolutely ages to dig the planting holes, had to use the slim hand digger, lots of stones to remove. Only one to go. Now the skies are nicely overcast, perfect for taking photographs.

So that's what I'll do first. I'll go on a flower hunt, but won't forget the greenery. Then I'll find something nice to finish my day with. Not digging out Lamium.

Thursday 28th August

Another wonderful day. I planted the last Hebe. I then dug out the miniature Agapanthus clumps from the edge of the Septic Tank Garden and started chopping them into smaller, more manageable divisions. Had to leave everything half finished, will fix it all up tomorrow. On the way to visit family I stopped off on to buy some gardening tools.

Also grabbed four Pittosporums and another Azalea. Gradually getting my garden filled with sensible shrubs. Three more Camellias are coming here this weekend to be rehomed. Yeay!
