Goodbye to those Camellias

New Camellia
Seriously thinking about replacing seven of the second-hand Camellias in the Pond Paddock Garden. They are not looking good (I think they are dead). Have found some suitable ones for a sale price. Thinking, thinking...
Tuesday 23rd September
Next morning - doing, doing... Actually, done! I went to the nursery first thing, bought seven new Camellias (two red Kramer's Supremes, three deep pink Waterlilies, and two pale pink High Fragrances). And what's more, they are all planted. Also bought four little Lavenders which I will plant underneath the washing line. Yeay!
And now, after a long gardening day yesterday and two hours of kneeling and planting this morning, I'm going to relax and read my book. Actually am hoping for the forecast rain to arrive.
Wednesday 24th September
Yesterday afternoon I had my little hoses on, moving them through the new Camellia garden. I did some edge of border weeding, and then cranked up the bonfire and burnt the old dead Camellias. Needless to say they went whoosh in a flurry of flames. A good decision to pull them out.
Today's plan is fairly flexible. Maybe an early bonfire (wheeling over barrow loads of mess from the fence-lines). Maybe plant the potatoes - it's time. Definitely some more sit-down weeding. Enjoy the spring blossom. Non-Gardening Partner tells me it might rain around lunchtime.

Cherry Blossom
Five hours later...
Have been doing little, inconsequential things - but nothing is really inconsequential in gardening, I guess. It's just that some things are less noticeable that others. I started at 8:30am, came inside for morning coffee and honey toast, then back outside for some more weeding near the big pink rhododendron.

The Big Pink Rhododendron
I planted the Jersey Benne and Agria potatoes, then pulled out the big Yukkas from their pots and threw them on the bonfire (their leaves were going yellow and I don't like them). Planted the last Hebe, and started clearing and re-levelling the steps to the washing line. Need to make them safer for mature gardener travel.
And then - yeay! It got cold and the rain arrived, as promised. Am so happy. Just hope it will water everything nicely. I will have a shower (remembering to wash my knees), put on clean socks and some merino layers.
