Spring?
When is the first day of Spring in the southern hemisphere? The beginning of September, or the spring equinox (September 22nd or 23rd)? I've decided on a personal definition - spring has arrived when I spring out of bed without wanting to linger.

New Spring Blues
Today may be September 1st on the calendar, but it hasn't quite sprung for me! However I was in the garden before 10am, all keen, layered up for the cold, enjoying the plum blossom on the seedling trees. Spent most of the morning planting the three new Camellias I picked up yesterday. Took ages, but the ground was very stony.
Then I started digging out Lamium from the oval shaped Pond Paddock Garden. Took three hours to produce four barrowfuls of rubbish, and my first hand tools casualty - a slim hand digger got lost somewhere in the mess. Dug out lots of spring bulbs (greenery only, no flowers, planted five years ago), put them in a pot to build up their strength. Started trimming the Paris Daisies. My plan is to eventually edge the garden with a chunky row of Renga Renga (Rock lilies).
Are you OK, fingers?
Now hopefully my piano fingers will be OK to do some practice for Chamber Music tomorrow. As in everything, I will do my best.
Tuesday 2nd September
No springing out of bed this morning, either. Brr... Have just walked around the back lawn to check on the Camellias. Oh so pretty. My first task is to collect two barrowfuls of 'stuff'. Gentle stuff - fern trimmings, rose prunings (oops, still haven't finished) - while waiting for the sun to come out. Yes. Nice to start the day slowly.

Firewood
Lunchtime...
Almost all of the Lamium in the Pond Paddock Garden is out. That sneaky plant has spent the last five years creeping across from the other side of the path. Might explain all those scurrying noises in the night, hee hee.
Have also pruned more Hydrangeas (the pruning of which I find confusing). Loving my garden. But wishing there wasn't quite so much visible work to do!
Two hours later...
Lit the bonfire - yeay! Two minutes later - whoa! The wind started blowing madly. Oops. Then the wind died down. Phew! Wandered off. The wind roared again. Eek! Then it started raining - a so-called sun-shower. Silly weather.
Sat down in the Pond Paddock Garden and pulled out more daffodils, dug out the last of the Lamium, and trimmed the Carexes. No point in cleaning up - everything is destined for the bonfire, and the wind will start teasing again. Have watered the bonfire ashes and now I am going out to my music rehearsal. P.S. Fred is so rude. He has pee-ed on the side of my music bag.
